Sophia Floyd has enjoyed careers as a horse trainer, hand therapist, volunteer program coordinator, and proud mother of three. She was born and raised in Colorado to a wildlife biologist father and a successful watercolor artist mother. The inevitable outcome has been Sophia’s interest in landscape photography.

Sophia enjoys traveling and has devoted much of her photography to that endeavor. Her reverence for the environment is also at the forefront of her photography, and with this attitude she hopes to inspire admiration in others.

It is in this vein that all photographs sold through Sophia Floyd Photography will have 50% of the net profits donated to the Nature Conservancy – a fabulous organization dedicated to preserving pristine land all over the world, for wildlife, health of the environment, and for future generations to enjoy.

Please enjoy the photographs!

“What I love about nature/landscape photography is that it integrates art and science. It can be a perfect balance between right brain and left brain, hard science and artistic beauty, yin and yang, masculine and feminine, technical and visual, linear thinking and whole ‘picture’ thinking. What is provocative about art and science integration is that it leads to innovative and creative ideas in the area of science. It brings an emotional response to a scientific theory such as conservation, physics, global warming, molecular biology, astronomy and the Hubble telescope photographs, or species on the brink of extinction. Of even of more interest to me is photographing the POSITIVE results of conservation and sustainable living. People get bogged down in always hearing about the destruction of the natural environment. I am interested in photographing our successes so that people understand that they can and DO make a difference. I want people to understand that every purchase is a vote for a better world. If you buy bamboo instead of Brazilian hardwood for your new floor, you save an acre of rainforest. If you buy organic salad, you vote for less pesticides, better health, cleaner watershed, and more abundant wildlife. We have had many successes in the past 50 years. We have saved many species from extinction, we have set aside more land than ever to be preserved as wild places, and we are beginning to see this world as magnificent interrelated place that is deserving of careful stewardship. Nature photography can help give visual reality to scientific research AND impart the passion that there are things greater than ourselves, that are worth our time and care.”
